Pounced In Field
(ebook illustration)
Shortly after Elira and I got married, we were spending time in the forest together and I challenged her to a playful race in a nearby field. Elira gives me a huge head-start, but thanks to her greater speed and longer strides, she quickly catches up to me. She nudges me playfully with her muzzle as she runs alongside me, encouraging me to run faster. Our shared laughter echoes throughout the forest, but it's cut short when I end up tripping over myself and falling onto my back in the grass.
Elira playfully pounces on me, her paws landing on either side of my body as she looks down at me with a smirk. “Well, that’s it, you’re dragon food,” she teases. We both laugh as I lay there trying to catch my breath. She reaches down and brings us into a gentle kiss, my hand finding its way to her face as we lose ourselves in the moment. I keep my hand on her cheek as she pulls back a bit and we look into each other's eyes.
When I finally go to get up, Elira firmly holds me down with her paw. “You’re not going anywhere,” She says playfully, “you’re mine.” I'm surprised by her strength, but the feeling of her paw against my chest, rather than being a source of fear and vulnerability, makes me feel a profound sense of safety and love as we look into each other's eyes. Her having physical power over me like this stirs Elira's natural dominating instincts, causing them to come to the surface for the first time in her life.
Her eyes widen in surprise and sudden realization. She was, of course, aware of her species' natural instinct to dominate their mates, but she had never felt this instinct before, and was surprised by how strong the desire to dominate me was. She immediately lets me go and steps back. I ask her what's wrong, and this leads us to have a conversation about her dominating instincts and how we were going to deal with this aspect of her dragon nature given my human vulnerability.
